Rice is my favorite grain, especially basmati rice,
It comforts and nourishes,
It goes well with so many dishes.
It’s a shining star in my kitchen.
Basmati rice is gluten free and very easy to prepare.
It’s a perfect addition to almost any meal,
And the trick to preparing the perfect basmati rice is simple and easy.
If you want to make airy basmati rice,
Whose grains are separated one by one,
All you’ll need is simply to wash all the starch from the rice.
Take a dense strainer and put the basmati rice in it,
Rinse it well under cold water.
until the water that comes out of the basmati rice is transparent and not whitish,
And that’s it, it’s ready for cooking!
So easy and simple, and so delicious.
Happy basmati rice days to all of us 🙂
Ingredients
- 1 cup white basmati rice
- 1½ cups boiling water
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- Pinch of salt
Preparation
Wash the rice well in cold water, until the water becomes transparent.
Put the rice in a pot of hot water, and pour olive oil and salt over everything.
Put the pot covered with a lid and cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes. When the rice is ready, turn off the heat and let the rice rest with the lid closed for about 10 minutes.
How do we know the rice is ready? All the water that was in the pot will be absorbed by the rice and the rice will be soft and airy.
A little extra from me:
- The rice can be kept in the fridge in a sealed box for up to 5 days.
- It’s very important not to skip the washing step. If you don’t wash the rice it’ll come out lumpy and sticky.
- If you don’t have a strainer, you can put the rice in a pot, pour cold water into it, mix the rice and water with your hands and carefully pour only the water out of the pot. You have to repeat this action several times until the water is transparent and not white in color.
- You can add any seasoning you want at the stage where you prepare the pot.
- You can fry a little onion in a pot, and add the rice and water to it to continue cooking the rice.
