Guide to Holiday Hosting

  • Prepare the menu for the meal in advance.
  • Ensure the menu includes dishes that are split between the oven and stove to avoid overloading one area.
Break down meal preparation into tasks: start with shopping and purchasing ingredients, organise the groceries in a clean fridge, and don’t forget to leave space in the fridge for leftovers from the meal 😉
  • Work on a clean workspace. Clean the work surface between each dish preparation.
  • Set the table the night before the meal, and also clean the guest bathroom so that these tasks are not part of the hosting day.
  • How did I fold my napkins? First, I folded each quarter of the napkin to the center and rolled the napkin into a solid cylinder, tied it with cooking twine and inserted a lemon leaf (you can use any leaf you choose).
  • The vase I placed on the table was filled with lemons and left a space in the center to add a bunch of leafy branches or a bouquet of flowers.
  • Prepare the dessert a day before the meal and assemble it only close to serving time.
  • Make sure the dishwasher and sink are empty before the end of the meal. Wash the serving bowls by hand and put all other dishes in the dishwasher.
  • Allow guests to help with clearing the dishes and don’t leave anything for the next day.
  • Most importantly, enjoy every moment of hosting and family time—these days, they are not to be taken for granted.
