My coffee meditation is simply about being present in the moment,
surrendering to my breath,
and connecting with the sensations I experience in my body.

This morning, I woke up with racing thoughts,
so I decided to give myself a moment of pause.
My coffee meditation feels light-years away these days,
and I decided to fully immerse myself in it.
To try to stay in the sip,
in the breath,
to feel the beats of my broken heart,
to be in the moment without letting my heart and mind start drifting again.

I made myself a beloved and familiar coffee in my favourite coffee cup,
and sat with my hands embracing the cup.
I imagined and detailed everything I feel right now.
I feel the soft breeze on my cheeks,
the whistling sound in my ears,
the chirping of birds and the buzzing of bees,
and the quiet that hides just behind the noise.
I smell the wonderful aroma of the coffee,
it reaches the front of my nostrils,
and enters my heart with a deep breath.

The warmth of the coffee transfers to the beautiful coffee cup I chose.
I feel that the coffee cup is ready to give me a few minutes of tranquillity,
of calm,
of being in the here and now of what my heart desires.

I turned off all the sounds,
all the thoughts,
all the difficulties and visions for five tiny simple minutes.
I listened to the day beginning,
to the leaves rustling in the breeze,
to the leaves falling from the tree because autumn has arrived.
To the autumn scents and the earth tickling my nose.
I let the sun rays caress me,
I inhaled the various scents mixed with the aroma of the coffee.
And then came the moment,
the first sip of the coffee.
The first sip is the most comforting,
it’s the powerful encounter between the familiar, beloved taste and the sensations we associate with it.

First, feel the warmth of the coffee combined with its aroma.
They will flood your mouth, nose, and the upper lip area,
and then, with the sip, a sweet and addictive taste will burst, enveloping your entire tongue and mouth.
From the tongue, it moves to the sides of the mouth and fills the taste buds with its wonderful coffee aroma,
it goes down the throat and is swallowed.

Immediately after the coffee is swallowed,
there is a great sense of contentment.
A precious and simple moment we forgot how to enjoy.
We forgot how it comforted us and made us feel good until very recently.
The heart fills with it, and this sense of contentment in this moment is what we need to carry with us throughout the day.
The continued drinking of the coffee is accompanied by great contentment.
The remaining sips are not like the first one,
but they are full of gratitude.
The more we drink the coffee,
the more the sense of contentment grows and caresses our faces.

The coffee cup becomes less hot,
the hands begin to cool down a bit,
and I return to the here and now.
I try to push away the worries and thoughts for a moment longer,
and simply appreciate the moment I gave myself.
Each of us has something that calms us,
something we do automatically,
that is part of our day.
I try to break it down into actions,
into moments full of sensation.
I repeat the feelings in words,
I tell them to myself in my heart and mind.
Healing slowly and steadily the slowly healing corners.
For the heart that finds a bit of peace within the great storm,
and for myself, knowing that I simply needed to stop everything for this time that is just mine.

The same can be done with any bite or sip that you love.
The main and most important thing is to create the space for that moment.
To be in a quiet, safe, and allowing space.
It can even be a room in the house,
it doesn’t need to be a fancy or special place.
Find a corner where the body is comfortable,
a moment where the ears hear only something that is pleasant and good for us.
Even music can be suitable.
Make sure we are breathing,
deep and long breaths,
and narrate to ourselves the precise description of the feelings we are experiencing right now.

Tell them to your heart,
tell them to your soul,
tell them to the little children hiding in your sweetheart.
Give yourself a personal caress and hug.
A pure moment just for myself,
listening to the breaths and heartbeat,
to the warmth of the body,
to the scents and flavors you are experiencing.
Just a moment for yourself amidst the endless chaos.
